now that was unexpected
...or how I became someone else
For the second time in 53 years I’ve had a profound identity shift.
Last time this hit me the journey from “I am a musician” to “I am a coach” took around 3 years (2011 to 2014).
It was agony. Like tearing out my bleeding heart.
But this year, “I am a coach” to “I am a [non-technical] builder” occurred within 4 months.
And yet, this transition has felt like coming home; finding a part of myself that was hiding behind lines and lines of incomprehensible code.
This is the story of that change...
Onwards & upwards,
Mike
“By building it you’re building you.”
P.S. This shift explains my Substack silence. “Mad Scientist Mode” doesn’t come close to describing the intensity of the obsession.
But when I first came up for air - I shared via the quickest/easiest way I knew how - pull out my phone, hit record, talk, post.
Zero plan. Zero script. Zero editing. Zero Descript. (yay!)
I then “rebranded” (ie made an image lol) my PodWalk podcast feed as BuildPod - because to me making music is just a particular form of building.
But now I’m in the flow I’m reigniting Substack again by catching up with the BuildPods you may have missed...1 a day for the next 10 days.
So if you’re curious to know how it happened, what my non-technical ass is building and how you can build your future with these new tools...
