I have a problem with personal goals.
They are a useful tool to decide what to do.
But all too often, they harden into a WEAPON we use to beat ourselves.
It is a mistake to treat a personal goal as a fixed future you can’t change “because you said you would”.
Because when you set a goal you don’t know what you’ll discover by moving towards it.
Goals are wings, not chains.
At the end of 2024 my goal was to launch a new business: “Creator Monday”.
The idea was sharing behind-the-scenes of Make Music Your Life (the coaching business I’ve built since 2012.)
But then, while creating a strategy, I had a series of mind-blowing experiences that made that goal seem small…
Almost irrelevant.
So I pivoted.
The only business that made sense in 2025 had to take on the AI tidal wave crashing all around us.
So in February I started this Substack as The Perpetual Mind Machine.
In March it became Recursive Intelligence.
Today:
Recursivism.
These changes aren’t indecision.
They’re course correction.
They reflect my progress.
And they embody Recursivism itself.
The Perpetual Mind Machine was a vibe.
An echo of Make Music Your Life’s style, but not wide enough to hold the transformation happening in the world today.
Recursive Intelligence is a system.
An growing set of human-centred tools, processes and methods to work with AI as a thinking partner.
But Recursivism?
In a world of accelerating change…
It is a way of seeing, thinking and endlessly becoming.
Endlessly becoming, the endless rebirth of the Godhead within. I like that Mike.
